The Greek island of Thira (more popular like Santorini) is located north of Crete. 1500 B.C. this a volcanic island exploded destroying the Minoan civilization in Crete and most probably is the base for the myth of Atlantis.
The volcano is still active but people, ignoring the danger, build the houses on the "caldera". In this photo the ships actually sail inside the crater.
